Climbing center with olympic dimensions

The city and district savings bank erlangen-hochstadt-herzogenaurach has taken over the naming rights for the new climbing and club center of the german alpine association (DAV) in erlangen, which will become the savings bank mountain world. Sparkasse erlangen is not only a long-standing partner of the DAV, but also the main financing partner for the construction project. In a press conference on tuesday the new name and the new logo of the new climbing center were presented by the savings bank and the german alpine club, which is the largest sports club in erlangen with nearly 10000 members.

Construction begins in september

As project manager torsten hans emphasized, the new climbing and club center, with around 2,000 square meters of climbing space, will be the largest climbing facility in the region and is aimed not only at top and mass athletes, but also at families and climbing enthusiasts. Climbing is currently enjoying great popularity and will even become an olympic discipline in 2020. For the olympic combined competition format, which includes three different disciplines, the new climbing center meets all the requirements so that olympic competitions can also be held there.

In addition to a rough courtyard and a bistro, the building will also have its own training area for school classes and climbing courses, with a special focus on youth work. Since the old climbing center in rothelheimpark has been overloaded for a long time, the planning for the new climbing center started more than five years ago. Construction work on the project is scheduled to start on 27 june. September 2019, the official inauguration is planned for december 2020.

Johannes von hebel, chairman of the board of the savings bank, described the project as a "special highlight for the region". However, no information was given about the financing of the project.
